What is the matching gift opportunity?

This Giving Day, we encourage you to help us reduce food insecurity for students. Our generous anonymous donor will match each gift up to $1000, (to a maximum of $15,000). So, if you are looking for an area to support our students, please consider giving to the Emergency Food Insecurity Bursary Fund. For example, if you give $20 today towards the Emergency Food Insecurity Bursary Fund, then your gift will have an impact of $40.

We hope to garner as much participation as possible in this great initiative and bring our community together. If you don’t see the specific area you are looking to support, you can email invest@bowvalleycollege.ca for help or more information.

If I am a Bow Valley College employee, can I make a gift as a monthly Choices donor and still be eligible for the matching gift?

The impact of giving

“I am a single mother of two children and I homeschool them while I have been studying. We live in a women’s shelter for families fleeing abuse and I have been pursuing my education so that I can obtain a career which can support us. I’ve become passionate about helping women in shelters and I want to work in a way that I can affect real change for women like me. I want to provide them support and hope, and my education will help me do that. I am so grateful for this award. Thank you.”

On November 30, Bow Valley College is participating in Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. We are excited to host our first-ever Giving Day, with a goal of raising $40,000 to support student awards and bursaries and access to education for all students.

This Giving Day, we encourage you to give to the Bharwani and Community Future Education Fund in order to have your donation doubled. For each gift of up to $50, our generous donor will match it dollar for dollar (to a maximum of $20,000). So, if you are looking for an area to support our students, please consider giving to the Bharwani and Community Future Education Fund. Endowments are important for post-secondary institutions as they allow your gift to continue in perpetuity. Establishing and contributing to an endowment ensures that we have the funds to support students for generations to come.

Working with our partner, the Bharwani Foundation, all gifts up to $50 (to a maximum of $20,000) will be matched towards the fund. Because of this, your gift will have an amplified impact in perpetuity. For example, if you give $20 today towards the Bharwani and Community Future Education Fund, then your gift will have an impact of $40. By supporting this endowment, your gift will be invested with all other gifts from community members like you. Every year, this fund will support students in these four areas: BIPOC students, newcomers to Canada, single parents and a general fund available to all students. Endowments allow us to offer these awards in perpetuity; as the fund grows, we hope to offer more awards each year.

Giving Day Starts at 8 am on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, and closes at midnight. However, you can also make your gift earlier if you would like! You can give online at https://bowvalleycollege.ca/about/give-to-bow-valley-college/givenow. Donations up to $50 made between now and November 30, 2021 will be eligible for gift matching up to a maximum of $20,000. Thank you for your support!

Yes! Our charitable registration number is No. 87843 1683 RR0001

We know that access to education is the greatest agent of social change, and we are committed to removing barriers to education for our students.

Monthly giving is easy! It automates your giving and allows you to budget your charitable contributions over the year. For example, $10 a month amounts to $120 a year. This can make a significant impact for one of our students! For more information about monthly giving, contact us at invest@bowvalleycollege.ca or consider adding a monthly gift to your Giving Day contributions. Please note, only donations made during the Giving Day period will be eligible for gift matching.

“Food insecurity exists on campus. As a student, I can attest to the difficulty of concentrating in class without a healthy breakfast, or writing an exam after skipping lunch. Without proper nourishment, students have a more difficult time sleeping well, concentrating, attending classes, studying, and delivering assignments. Unfortunately, food insecurity is an issue that faces many students as we work to balance our studies with personal lives and jobs.
Combatting food insecurity is a top priority of the Students’ Association of Bow Valley College, which is why in addition to our $110,000 annual donation to Bow Valley College, SABVC administers a Grocery Assistance Program (GAP) which provides grocery gift cards to students in need.
Since September 1, 2022, SABVC has spent nearly $7,000 distributing more than 130 grocery gift cards to Bow Valley College students in an effort to help membership focus less on where their next meal is coming from, and more on their studies.”
